Nestled in the highlands of Ethiopia’s Gedeo Zone, near the town of Gedeb, lies the Banko Hatartu community — home to more than 650 smallholder farmers who have cultivated coffee for generations. Each farmer tends to about two hectares of land, located at altitudes ranging from 2,050 to 2,280 meters above sea level.

Here, the cool mountain climate, fertile red-brown soils, and the natural forest canopy create ideal conditions for growing exceptional Arabica coffee. The farmers of Hatartu follow traditional, sustainable cultivation practices passed down through their families — hand-picking only ripe cherries and processing them carefully using the fully washed method.

The result is a coffee that captures the essence of Gedeb’s terroir — known for its bright, floral aromatics, citrus sweetness, and tea-like clarity. Beyond its distinctive flavor, every cup reflects the dedication of the farming community and their commitment to preserving the rich coffee heritage of southern Ethiopia.
